Wholesale banking group with an African focus is currently seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join the Finance team, directly supporting the CFO. The Bank specialises in Trade Services & Finance, Trade Participation & Distribution, Treasury and Payment Operations and is managed and regulated in the UK.

Overall Objectives

- Management of all aspects of financial information on behalf of the bank
- Preparation and delivery of all stator, regulatory, tax and management information
- Co-ordination of annual budgeting and forecasting process

Key Accountabilities

General ledger and chart of accounts
- Management of new ledger accounts, new products and business lines

All management information coming out of financial control
- Review and produce relevant information daily, monthly and annually
- Reporting to group and for UK entity
- Ensure information presented is accurate and informative

Annual financial statement production and audit queries
- Prepare financial statements and notes
- Liaise with auditors ensuring a smooth process

Tax computations and liability calculations
- Accurately prepare / oversee tax calculations for VAT, Corporation Tax and PSA
- Ensure liabilities are paid on timely basis
- Liaise with tax advisors and HMRC where necessary

Budgeting and forecasting processes
- Prepare annual budget and 3 year plan

Regulatory requirements
- First reviewer of all regulatory returns
- Maintain knowledge of current and forthcoming regulations applicable to the bank
- Assist Head of Regulatory with ICAAP/RRP/ILAA production Maintain and update stress  testing scenarios and workings

Accounts Payable
- Responsible for payment of all suppliers including the setting up the systems and controls surrounding these payments

Other duties

- Design and update policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective controls and processes in financial control
- Management, motivation and development of financial analyst
- Any other duties reasonably assigned by the CFO

Desirable skills/qualifications

- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
- 7 – 10 years of post-qualified experience in financial services industry
- Trade finance / corporate banking / experience
- Strong understanding of IFRS accounting standards
- Knowledge of calculations for VAT, Corporation and employment taxes
- Ability to build, monitor and report on budgets and forecasts
- Experience of developing value-add management information
- Experience of change management and project managing change implementation
- Strong process improvement experience
- Ability to present to a senior audience
- Excellent written and oral presentation skills
- Intermediate/ advanced data manipulation and interrogation skills (i.e. Excel)
