Our Team

The Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) organization is responsible for managing relationships with millions of Merchants and Partners around the world that facilitate American Express acceptance and enabling the day-to-day operations of our company's payment network. The newly created U.S. Merchant Marketing, Global Marketing Execution & Analytics (UMGEA) team is responsible for leveraging marketing and analytics capabilities to drive sustainable growth through customer, partner, and product insights that inform the merchant value proposition, channel strategy, and investment optimization, while leveraging the full range of enterprise assets and partnerships for GMNS customers and ensuring we remain compliant as a network. The GMNS Analytics team within UMGEA is responsible for partnering with global markets to drive profitable growth, accelerating acceptance and amplifying the value of Amex acceptance to Merchants, bank partners and Card Members at scale. We offer powerful data and actionable insights to attract new businesses to engage with Amex, help existing businesses improve performance and capitalize on new opportunities.

Description

The GMNS Analytics team is seeking an Analyst to support the Financial Crime Data Analytics, Global Marketing Execution & Analytics function. This role will partner closely with stakeholders across GMS Product and Governance, Risk & Regulation and Operations team to enable leadership decision-making by designing scalable, global analytical frameworks that address complex regulatory and business challenges. The Analyst will deliver high-quality analysis and insights to drive long term data product strategy, operational efficiency, and risk and compliance effectiveness across the global merchant ecosystem. Success in this role requires a strong external perspective, analytical rigor, and the ability to translate open-ended problems into actionable insights that support innovation and sustainable growth. The role will also contribute to modernization initiatives, leveraging automation, scalable data solutions, and emerging capabilities such as GenAI.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

• Develop and apply analytical frameworks to address business problems focused on financial crime and risk mitigation, using a consultative mindset.
• Analyze large, complex datasets to identify trends, measure performance, and translate findings into actionable insights that inform business risk and control strategy.
• Partner with business, product and analytics teams to share learnings and enable data-driven decision-making across markets and functions.
• Contribute to the automation and scaling of data creation and reporting processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and speed to market.
• Explore and apply advanced analytics techniques and tools, including GenAI, and leverage secondary research to enhance insight generation.
• Support adherence to enterprise data governance standards, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and responsible analytics practices.
• Provide analytical support for strategic initiatives and ad-hoc projects aligned with GMNS priorities.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• 0-4 years of relevant experience in analytical domain.
• Intellectual curiosity, attention to detail ability to learn quickly and drive results.
• Ability to drive insights from data, manage multiple projects and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong collaboration skills with ability to build relationships and challenge the status quo.
• Excellent business writing and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively, build relationships and influence at all levels.
• Technical Skills: Familiarity with Google Big Query, SQL, Python, Lumi, PySpark and Tableau.
• Experience in risk operations, or merchant business preferred.
• Experience in Machine Learning/ Cloud / Gen AI is a plus.

Academic Background:

• Bachelors in Statistics/Mathematics/Economics/ Engineering/Data Science with relevant experience.
• Post Graduation in Statistics/Mathematics/ Economics/Engineering/Management is a plus.
