Our client is expanding their operations in Japan and are looking for an Employment Law Specialist / Paralegal to support our growing team. This is a key role focused on Japanese labor and employment law compliance, employee relations, and HR legal matters in the fintech/payments sector.

You will serve as the primary point of reference for employment-related legal and regulatory requirements in Japan, helping them navigate complex labor laws while supporting day-to-day people operations.

1. Provide expert advice and guidance on Japanese labor laws, employment contracts, work rules, and compliance matters
2. Draft, review, and manage employment agreements, dispatch contracts, and related legal documents
3. Support employee relations issues, including performance management, disciplinary actions, terminations, and dispute resolution
4. Conduct research and analysis on evolving employment regulations and advise management accordingly
5. Assist with visa/work permit processes, social insurance, and labor compliance for local and foreign staff
6. Collaborate with HR and business teams to ensure all people processes are legally compliant
7. Monitor and support labor law changes affecting the payments/fintech industry
8. Handle other employment law and compliance projects as needed

1. Strong knowledge of Japanese labor and employment law (required)
2. Experience as a paralegal, labor law specialist, in-house employment counsel, or HR professional with deep labor law focus
3. Ability to research, interpret, and clearly communicate complex legal matters to non-legal stakeholders
4. Practical experience drafting employment documents and handling ER issues in Japan
5. Business-level English (spoken and written) + Native-level Japanese
6. Experience in fintech, payments, technology, or regulated industries is a strong plus
7. Paralegal qualification or law degree is advantageous but not mandatory if you have strong practical experience
