Senior Economist
Job Description Moody's Analytics' Economics and Business Analytics unit seeks an experienced macroeconomist to conduct economic research, forecasting, econometric modeling, analysis and presentations. This position will be based in Tokyo and candidates will be expected to have fluency in both Japanese and English. Responsibilities will focus on the economies of Japan and north Asia but will encompass aspects of global economic conditions, monetary policy and fiscal policy.

Job Description
  • Analyze data, write recurring and original research articles for company and other research publications; substantively contribute to our website; and make presentations to clients, as well as at Moody's and third-party events in either Japanese or English.
  • Research responsibility including economic forecasting and analysis of countries, industries, and subnational economies with minimal assistance from product editor.
  • Works independently to create original research reports for publication in monthly products and as white papers.
  • Acts as an expert for the economy of Japan and other APAC countries and their metropolitan areas. Responsible for monthly macro forecasts and alternative scenarios for Japan, other APAC countries, and metro areas within those countries.
  • Responsible to work independently on equation estimation and model building.
  • Lead consulting projects and internal research projects.
  • Participate in television, radio and print media interviews in areas of research expertise.
  • Lead client teleconferences independently or jointly.
  • Present at client conferences and webinars.
  • Travel for client meetings and presentations. Support Sales Staff as subject matter expert for the Japan economy and for Moody's Analytics economic research products.
  • May supervise an Associate Economist and/or Economist including day-to-day management and writing, and delivery of performance evaluations.


Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Economics or related field, and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience; OR- Master's degree in Economics or related field and ten years of experience.
  • Experience with economic analysis, either international economics or macroeconomics, is required.
  • Training in econometrics is required
  • Must be a motivated, responsible person who can work well with others and independently of daily supervision
  • Excellent writing, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to supervise and train co-workers.
  • Fluency in Japanese and English required.
