Private Equity Partners Overview:

BlackRock Private Equity Partners (“BlackRock PEP”) is the private equity investment solutions group at BlackRock. Private Equity Partners has offices in Princeton, Zurich, London and Hong Kong with total AUM of more than USD 29 Billion across a range of commingled funds and separate accounts. Major investors with BlackRock PEP include insurance firms, pension funds, endowments, sovereign wealth funds and sophisticated family offices.  BlackRock PEP invests globally across the range of private equity strategies, including venture capital, growth, buyouts, distressed, and special situations.  This senior position is with BlackRock PEP Investor Relations & Solutions team in Tokyo focused on the Japan.
 

Job Purpose/Background:

BlackRock Private Equity Partners’ Investor Relations & Solutions team is seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individual interested in working in a fast-paced, international environment as a member of a closely knit team in the alternative investment industry. The role requires the candidate to drive private equity fundraising strategy in Japan and broader Asia by collaborating with BlackRock PEP’s investment team and other Investor Relations colleagues. Developing a broad understanding of Private Equity Partners’ business and investments while also paying attention to detail in producing marketing and other materials. The position is based in BlackRock’s Tokyo office, however the individual will work closely with the PEP Asia team in Hong Kong as well as other BlackRock offices around the globe. Significant travel is expected for internal and external client meetings.

This individual will work closely with local BlackRock Tokyo colleagues in the Alternatives division as well as institutional client coverage.  The candidate is responsible for managing and executing a broad set of activities across business development, investor solutions design and implementation as well as client service.  The role requires a broad and deep understanding of the private equity markets, the needs of Japanese Asian institutional investors (and clients across Asia), as well as internal expertise on the investment strategies of BlackRock PEP. In fulfilling his/her tasks the position holder will have the opportunity to closely interact with other departments within BlackRock around the world, including Client Management, Investment Management, Risk Management & Quantitative Analysis, Legal, Tax, Fund Administration, etc.

Key Responsibilities:

Participate in general client service activities including:

  • Answering LP inquiries
  • Editing and reviewing RFPs
  • Assisting in annual LP event planning
  • Preparing and, over time, conducting client portfolio reviews 

Implement quarterly performance updates across marketing materials, including:

  • Client / product presentations
  • Fact sheets
  • Team-related materials
  • Performance data analysis and benchmarking
  • Review quarterly data packs for accuracy and formatting
  • Support market research and provide updates in presentations and quarterly investment reports

Support fund raising activities:

  • Track and distribute offering materials
  • Help organize road shows across client channels
  • Help prepare customized presentations
  • Work closely with senior IR professionals to ensure meeting follow-ups are completed

Assist with special projects

Requirements:

  • +5 years to 7 years of related experience within the Financial Services.
  • Bachelor’s degree; MBA a plus
  • Persuasive and polished written and oral communication skills in both English and Japanese
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment
  • Proven team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates entrepreneurial spirit and is willing to assume additional responsibilities
  • Full proficiency in PowerPoint, strong Excel skills
  • Language skills a plus

The ideal candidate has a strong interest in the private equity market as well as an understanding of the private placement and fundraising process with institutions and individual investors.  The candidate has to be detail oriented, mature and professional. He / she should be deadline driven, accurate and able to handle confidential information with the utmost respect. An ability to appropriately prioritize is crucial.

The ideal candidate should be self-directed and feel comfortable asking questions and taking the initiative to get projects completed accurately and on time. A strong client service focus is important as this position will communicate directly with sales teams, consultants and clients, in person, via phone and email on a regular basis.
