Admiral Careers Cardiff, United Kingdom
Associate Lawyer
We are looking for two talented and commercially minded lawyers to join our Group Legal team. This is an excellent opportunity to work at the heart of a major financial services business, advising on varied, high-profile matters and helping colleagues turn ambitious ideas into practical, well-managed outcomes.

You will join a friendly, collaborative in-house team and work closely with stakeholders across the business. You will have meaningful responsibility from the outset, together with support from experienced colleagues and genuine opportunities to broaden your expertise.

If you are a commercially focused lawyer looking for a varied in-house role where you can make an impact, develop your career and work with talented colleagues, we would love to hear from you. We welcome applications from candidates with experience gained in private practice, in-house or across both environments.

About the role
  • Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including technology, software, cloud, data, outsourcing, consultancy, licensing and other supplier and strategic contracts.
  • Provide clear, practical and solutions-focused legal advice on commercial, technology, data protection and related regulatory issues.
  • Support procurement, transformation, digital and operational projects from early-stage planning through to contract signature and implementation.
  • Identify, explain and help manage legal and regulatory risk while enabling the business to achieve its commercial objectives.
  • Build trusted relationships with stakeholders and work collaboratively with colleagues across Legal, Procurement, Data, Technology, Risk and the wider business.
  • Contribute to legal templates, guidance, training and improvements to the way legal services are delivered.
  • Manage matters independently, escalating appropriately and supporting other members of the team when needed.

Essential Skills and experience
  • You will be a qualified solicitor with three to six years' post-qualification experience gained in a commercial law firm and/or in-house legal team.
  • Strong academic background with a minimum of a 2.1 in an English law degree or a non-law degree (but having received at least a minimum of a Commendation in the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL)).
  • Strong commercial contracts experience and confidence drafting and negotiating agreements.
  • The ability to give concise, pragmatic advice that balances legal risk with commercial objectives.
  • Sound judgement, attention to detail and a proactive approach to solving problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make complex issues clear and accessible.
  • Confidence working autonomously, managing competing priorities and engaging effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • A collaborative, approachable style and a genuine desire to contribute to a supportive team culture.

Desireable skills and experience
  • Experience in data and technology matters and/or the financial services sector.
  • Familiarity with data protection, technology procurement, outsourcing or financial services regulation.

Location and ways of working

These are hybrid roles based in Cardiff. You must be able to work from our Cardiff office two or three days each week, enabling you to build strong relationships and collaborate closely with the team and business stakeholders. We also support flexible working outside those office days.

Why join us?
  • Interesting, varied work within a well-known financial services business.
  • Direct exposure to important commercial, data and technology projects.
  • A supportive team that values good judgement, curiosity, openness and practical problem-solving.
  • Opportunities to develop your expertise and influence how legal support is delivered.
  • A flexible working environment, with time together in Cardiff forming an important part of how we collaborate.

Please note - we may close this vacancy early if we receive lots of applications or business priorities change.
