Role Purpose
  • Enterprise Risk at HSBC includes Risk Strategy, Operational Risk and Resilience Risk. Each of these functions has an ongoing change agenda focused on continuous improvement of the management and reporting of risk, and compliance with regulatory and Group requirements.


Key Accountabilities
Impact on Business
  • The Enterprise Risk Business Architect will define both the strategic design and approach for initiatives across Enterprise Risk, as well as tactical solutions that can be deployed in parallel while the strategic solution is developed. They will ensure alignment with
  • Group strategy and design principles.
  • The jobholder is expected to:
  • Operate with a global remit influencing Enterprise Risk design and delivery Group-wide
  • Engage closely with Policy and Framework Design teams and interpret requirements from policy - as well as influence design where effective control management is problematic
  • Understand in detail the Group's Non-Financial Risk Management framework and governance structure and the tools and processes required to delivered that
  • Define both strategic and tactical designs, solutions and implementation approaches for Enterprise Risk working with
  • SMEs in the Business, Functions and IT
  • Prepare for and run workshops / meetings with senior stakeholders across the Business, Functions and IT
  • Conduct current state analysis on varying data sets including resources, controls, test plans, assurance plans to support business case preparation and benefits definition
  • Create materials to support policy and procedure creation based on the agreed designs which will define Enterprise Risk should be executed across HSBC
  • The candidate will also evidence logical thinking when solving problems and excellent attention to detail when developing high quality materials for presentations, training, guidance, communications and planning.


Major Challenges
  • The role supports a highly-matrixed organization spanning multiple businesses and regions
  • The changes in design will potentially significantly impact roles and responsibilities across both 1st and 2nd line of defences so the candidate will need to be able to extract information and agree solutions in an appropriate way
  • The change will involve significant input from multiple senior stakeholders requiring someone who can learn quickly and be credible in a short space of time
  • The overall programme will be complex and contain many individual initiatives with durations ranging from a few months to several years


Role Context
  • The jobholder will be part of a team supporting the design and implementation of a new way for HSBC to manage its Enterprise
  • Risk activities globally. The jobholder will be required to operate in the following way:
  • Work as part of the wider team making up Enterprise Risk, consulting and escalating to line management when required
  • Be self-motivated and driven but able to support and work in small and larger teams
  • Able to interact with stakeholders and should be confident to challenge them where appropriate, seeking guidance from the workstream lead when required
  • Be easily accessible and available to support stakeholder and programme line management needs. Typically, he / she should have high energy and sense of urgency
  • Work with and get support from multiple areas of the organization


Role Dimensions
  • Changes to Enterprise Risk will re-engineer risk management across HSBC. As such, the direct audiences include the Risk
  • Strategy function, the Operational Risk function, the Resilience Risk function; the CCO / Business Risk and Control
  • Management community; and the broader management of the Bank. Enterprise Risk includes the Enterprise Risk Management
  • Framework, the Operational Risk Management Framework and Resilience Risk Management policy.
  • The jobholder will be interacting with stakeholders from across the Businesses, Functions and Regions and from all three Lines of Defence as well as from the other programmes within the Enterprise Risk

Observation of Internal Controls
  • The jobholder will adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.

  • Technical Skill Requirements
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills: experience of methodically managing large volumes of data
  • Strong Microsoft PowerPoint skills: creating executive summaries for design document, developing options papers, documenting user journeys Personal Skill Requirements
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to understand and influence the position of stakeholder groups
  • Strong Communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Excellent team player
  • Able to successfully leverage input and resources from outside the immediate team
  • Organised and able to exercise broad discretion with minimal guidance and supervision
  • Strong analytical abilities for problem solving and critical thinking
