Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC's global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world's leading international bank.
Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.
Following extensive investment across our Technology and Digital domains and with plans for continued expansion throughout 2019 and beyond, we are currently seeking an experienced Head of Data on Cloud to join HSBC Technology.

In this role you will:
  • Platform Management: Manage all aspects of the platform team, including directly supervising, hiring, managing performance
  • Platform KPIs: Developing and overseeing SMART metrics for the platform
  • Strategy: Maintain a platform roadmap. Identify and recommend new technology solutions.
  • Product Management: Determining and prioritising business requirements for the platform, ensuring alignment with groups standards and fostering collaboration and reuse
  • Financials and TCO: Oversee platform finances, including budgeting and forecasting and maintaining TCO views
  • Controls: Implement policies and controls and automate platforms compliance reporting wherever possible.
  • Data Improvements: Proactively improve our compliance to data privacy, management and security policies and eliminate issues them with solutions or procedures
  • Delivery: Direct and support key implementation initiatives
  • Service: Achieve data and platform availability targets and manage growth (capacity planning and costs to run)
  • Support: Ensure appropriate platform support to users from other teams and functions.
  • Controls: ensure effective implementation of data and technology controls
  • Operating model: establish and evolve the operating model to create and run the data services in the context of cloud and shared group platforms.
  • Communications: Communicating with engineering, business functions and other departments as collaboration requires
  • Leadership: Be a people, data and technology leader. Inspire, support and guide others.
  • Cloud adoption: Oversee the global adoption of cloud warehousing technologies to support data collection, exploration and analysis.
  • Global Scalability: Ensure data platforms and capabilities respect local regulations, cloud availability, other technology or data constraints.
  • Data Modelling: Ensure adequate modelling of data in order to support business reporting capabilities
  • Data Entitlements: Ensure appropriate treatment (security, isolation, availability) or corporate vs customer vs third party data are in place. Ensure adequate entitlements capabilities and monitoring are in place to enable data discovery and consumption.
  • Compliance by Design: Embed 'compliance by design' principles and patterns into storage and retrieval, applying data retention policies and respecting, privacy policies
  • Simplification and legacy demise: Proactively simplify the technology stack, including demise of legacy technologies as new platforms and data sets become available. Sponsor and support migration activities from on premise to cloud.
  • APIs: Ensuring appropriate programmatic access (APIs) to key data sets are available therefore reducing direct mainframe and source system access needs
  • Data Democratisation: Create and evolve data self-service and discovery capabilities
  • Tooling standardisation: Rationalise and monitor the use of standard reporting and tooling capabilities across RBWM


Qualifications
What you will bring to the role;
To be successful in this role you should have proven experience within the Technology sector with knowledge of the following skills:
  • Experience with data warehousing, big data, business intelligence
  • Experience in creating scalable data platform with major cloud providers
  • Knowledge and experience in data modeling
  • Experience in both running technology services in operation and delivering large intiaitives
  • Proven ability in leading a large team and strong people management.
  • Prior experience as CTO / head of technology leading a function
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively from junior team members and senior leaders.
  • Ability to support decisions with sound reasoning. Ability to clearly articulate business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings.
  • Highly motivated self starter with proven ability to work collaboratively within teams and to deliver on time.

The base location for this role is London.
