Selby Jennings are working with a growing specialty insurance platform to appoint a Senior Portfolio Management Analyst into a newly enhanced portfolio management function.

This is a highly visible role working closely with underwriting, actuarial, exposure management and senior leadership teams to drive portfolio performance, underwriting strategy and business decision-making. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting a diversified specialty insurance portfolio, delivering actionable insights and helping to optimise risk-adjusted returns.

The role offers broad exposure across portfolio analytics, underwriting performance, catastrophe risk, portfolio optimisation and strategic planning. Rather than focusing solely on reporting, this opportunity provides the chance to influence underwriting decisions, develop analytical tools and support long-term business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the portfolio management framework, ensuring alignment between underwriting strategy, business plans and risk appetite.
  • Develop and maintain portfolio monitoring tools, dashboards and reporting solutions using Power BI and other visualisation platforms.
  • Perform portfolio deep-dives and analytical reviews to identify performance trends, opportunities and areas of risk.
  • Partner with underwriting and actuarial teams to support portfolio optimisation and risk management initiatives.
  • Contribute to scenario testing, financial modelling and portfolio performance assessments.
  • Support exposure management activities, including catastrophe risk monitoring and reporting.
  • Produce management information, KPI reporting and portfolio insights for senior stakeholders.
  • Drive data quality improvements and support broader automation and analytics initiatives.
  • Work closely with operations, technology and external vendors to enhance data capabilities and reporting infrastructure.
  • Help foster a data-driven culture across underwriting and actuarial functions.

Role Requirements

  • Minimum 3 year's experience within Portfolio Management, Pricing, Exposure Management, Reserving, Underwriting Analytics or a similar insurance analytical function.
  • Strong understanding of the London Market and key drivers of underwriting profitability.
  • Experience analysing large data sets and translating findings into actionable business recommendations.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience developing reporting and visualisation tools using Power BI, Tableau or Qlik Sense.
  • SQL, Python and/or R experience highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence decision-making.
  • Degree qualified in Actuarial Science, Data Science, Economics, Finance, Engineering or a related discipline. Professional qualifications such as Actuarial, CFA, CII or Data Science certifications beneficial.
  • Highly analytical with a commercial mindset and a passion for improving underwriting performance through data-driven insights.
