Tesco offers hope for redundant Scottish corporate bankers
Good news for the legions of corporate bankers coming out of Scotland's banks - Tesco Personal Finance, just about the only financial firm seemingly embarking on a recruitment drive at the moment, is planning on expanding into this area. Sadly, new jobs don't look imminent.
TPF officially relocated to its new office in Edinburgh's Haymarket yesterday, presenting a rare photo opportunity for first minister Alex Salmond, who spoke of the "tremendous coup" for Scotland's financial services sector.
TPF currently employs 250 and has plans to increase that number by 200 before the end of the year. At the moment, it's purely high street products, but Benny Higgins, TPF's chief executive, said the group was likely to move into corporate banking and mortgages "further down the line".
