The global super connector city
This is an extremely busy time for Hong Kong business community, and a correspondingly hot hiring market. Last year, Hong Kong was the number one IPO market in the world, and so far in 2026, fundraising has more than doubled from that peak. There have been more than a hundred new issues in the first eight months of the year, with HK$342.4bn (US$43.7bn) raised. The city’s investment banks, technology firms and other industries are reaching out to the rest of the world to maintain their access to global talent.
As well as Hong Kong’s own thriving market, the city is a gateway to the Greater Bay Area of China. The Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou innovation cluster was ranked first in World Intellectual Property Organization’s Global Innovation Index in both 2025 and 2026. The career opportunities in this economically dynamic area are also supported by Hong Kong’s strong performance in the IMD World Talent Ranking, where it rose to fourth place globally last year — among the highest in Asia.

However, many professionals are intimidated by the prospect of relocating to a different financial centre. As well as all of the normal stress and risk of making any job move, there is a need to find housing and make arrangements for family members, along with navigating the visa and residence system. And it can often be daunting to move outside one’s “comfort zone”, trading an established social and career network for an entirely new environment.
Attracting talent, investing in people
In Hong Kong, dedicated support available for global talent. Hong Kong Talent Engage (HKTE), reaches out to international talent, promotes various talent attraction measures, and provides comprehensive services from networking opportunities to relocation guidance, to help them settle in and integrate into the local community.
Paul Moody, Managing Director at CFA Institute, who relocated from London to Hong Kong this year, has made this journey and has first-hand experience of HKTE’s support. He was invited to speak at the Global Talent Summit Week organised by HKTE in March 2026, and has noted that the openness of the network has widened his own connections, spanning different companies, with people offering advice and help regardless of seniority.
For his professional development, Hong Kong offers something he could not find elsewhere, specifically its two-way connectivity. In his words: “No other global financial centre offers the same access to the Chinese Mainland. That gives you unique access into China as a bridge, while remaining connected to international markets.”
On living and working in the city, he notes that day‑to‑day life feels familiar yet offers distinct advantages. “Nothing is significantly different from London, but there are many benefits I didn’t have in London,” he said, citing Hong Kong’s efficient transport, vibrant food scene, a well‑established diversified cultural community and other diverse groups that make settling in straightforward. “In Hong Kong you are pulled into the community from day one, in a good way,” he added.

A showcase for global talent
One way in which HKTE reaches out to global talent is by organising careers fairs and showcases, to allow professionals who might be considering the next stage in their career to contact employers and learn about opportunities. As well as online events, these showcases are organised in some of the world’s biggest and most important talent markets, to facilitate in-person contact with professionals and graduates who might otherwise not be able to make the trip to Hong Kong. A recent showcase in Malaysia partnered with over 40 enterprises from Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area of China, attracting more than 4,000 visits and 1,000 CVs.
Now, the HKTE talent showcase is coming to London. In a three-part programme taking place over two days on the 17th and 18th of October, more than 50 leading enterprises from Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland across Banking and Finance, I&T, Engineering and Construction, and other professional services, will come to the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster.
As well as direct engagements at a careers fair, with CV drop-offs for over 200 immediate job opportunities, the showcase will include forum discussions between experts on the talent landscape and market trends, plus first-hand stories from global professionals who have already made the move. There will also be workshops with practical advice and career tips.
This event will benefit established professionals pursuing international career moves, as well as entrepreneurs and start‑up founders looking to scale. University students and recent graduates will also meet representatives from the region’s leading enterprises. A free executive photography booth will also be available, subject to a limited quota. Participants who complete the specified mission will be eligible for a professional portrait to enhance their CV.
