Leaving your banking job doesn't always work out, and it becomes especially risky to leave before bonus season. One Goldman Sachs MD has taken the plunge for the second time, joining Jane Street.

Bryn Thompson-Clarke joined the electronic trading giant as a trader this month in London. He spent the last decade at Goldman Sachs, joining in early 2015 and making MD in 2019.
He joined the bank from Decura Investment Management, a hedge fund founded by ex-Goldmanites that ceased operations in 2015. He joined the fund after five years as an equity exotics and hybrids trader at JPMorgan, and lasted just 16 months at Decura before its demise.
Leaving for Jane Street seems a far safer bet the second time around. Bloomberg reported earlier this month that the firm had generated $14.2bn of net trading revenue for the first nine months of the year.
The most recent Companies House accounts for Jane Street's UK entity revealed that it had 636 employees as of 2023; it paid them an average of $679.9k per head in 'salaries allowances and benefits in kind', which will surely soften the blow of leaving before his last Goldman Sachs bonus.
