Hedge fund Balyasny hired a JPMorgan trading MD in Hong Kong
Balyasny has been looking to grow in Asia after an excellent 2025. Revenues in the continent were up 82% year-on-year, and headcount across Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo has risen to more than 250. In 2026, it's attracting some big names to join the party.

Among them is Ronny Dharma, who joins the hedge fund's Hong Kong office after nine and a half years with JPMorgan. He made MD in 2021, and was latterly JPMorgan's APAC head of volatility trading. Before JPMorgan, Dharma spent a decade on the equity derivatives desk at Merrill Lynch, starting as a strat before becoming a trader.
Dharma's not the only PM to arrive in Asia. Last month, we reported that Trung Nguyen joined Balyasny from Brevan Howard in Singapore.
Balyasny is growing its office footprint both in and outside of Asia. Alongside tripling its Tokyo office space, it is also opening a new office in Abu Dhabi, led by ExodusPoint alum Yash Agarwal.
JPMorgan and Balyasny declined to comment.
