"I joined a London crypto start-up and now I am unemployed"

I am a trading technology professional and I am unemployed through not fault of my own.

I've spent years building my career in the trading technology industry and a few years ago I had my head turned by a crypto firm. Now that firm is closing.

My colleagues and I only learned about this situation in mid-August. We've just been given formal notice. We're all suddenly back in the job market at what seems to be a difficult moment.

We had no idea this was going to happen. Operationally, we were actually starting to see things pick up and everything seemed very positive. Suddenly everything has ground to a halt. It has been a shock.

Personally, I blame regulation. It's a bit like we were opening a huge superstore but were only being allowed to sell milk. Milk sales might be going well, but there’s only so far you can grow if you can’t put much else on the shelves.

I guess this is always a risk when you join a start-up. But if anyone's looking for good platform engineer, there are now plenty around.
