JPMorgan's leaked document reveals a preference for a particular type of intern
Many students want to be interns at JPMorgan, but few students succeed. If you're one of the 99% whose application ended in rejection, maybe you just weren't the right fit. In Europe, that might mean that you didn't study finance, law or accounting and that you speak a language like Albanian alongside English.
JPMorgan isn't commenting, but a leaked slide from a presentation made to its 2024 intern class in Europe suggests a strong preference for a certain sort of student.
Firstly, JPMorgan likes its interns relevant. If you're studying English literature, bad luck.
Secondly, JPMorgan likes its interns to speak a second major European languages (we presume that English is a given).
And lastly, JPMorgan has a preference for hiring its EMEA interns from a range of top European universities which are not exclusively in the UK. As the chart below shows, the top schools in Europe for JPMorgan interns are instead St. Gallen (Switzerland), Bocconi (Italy) and HEC Paris (Paris). UK schools like Durham are absent from the list. Even the London School of Economics only furnished the bank with four interns last year.
The perfect JPMorgan intern in Europe is, therefore, studying at a top European rather than British university, and speaks English alongside French, German or Italian. This is who gets the offers.
