Quant hedge fund keeps hiring for its new fundamental analysis team
Qube Research and Technologies, the quantitative hedge fund that spun out of Credit Suisse in 2017, is no longer just about quants. As we reported earlier this year, it's also building out a fundamental analyst research team under Stephen Irvine, who previously worked for Lijaro and Balyasny Asset Management.
Qube didn't respond to a request to comment for this article, but by our count, Irvine's team now includes at least seven people, some of whom have joined in recent months.
Irvine's most recent recruit seems to be Xiaorui Song, who moved to London earlier this month after working in large cap internet equity research for Wells Fargo and Deutsche Bank in New York. In August, he also hired Nick Nieland, a pharma analyst from Rokos who previously worked for Citi. Nieland is a javelin thrower who competed at three Olympic Games.
Song and Nieland join Irvine's other team members: Robert Joynson, who joined from BNP Paribas; William Stone, an industrials researcher; Raghav Bardalai, who joined from Moore Capital; Jinesh Patel, who joined from RBC; and Iain Simpson, a consumer researcher who came from Barclays in July.
Qube didn't respond to a request to comment on all the new arrivals. It's not clear how bonuses for the new team will be calculated. There have been suggestions that pay at the fund is not based on individual performance and is discretionary, whereas other hedge funds tend to pay a percentage of PnL.
