Ex-Goldman Sachs, Nomura quant MD joins hedge fund Verition

When leaving a bank for a hedge fund, it helps to know what kind of trades your new employer has a penchant for. The latest hire from hedge fund Verition likely knows more than most having worked in a sector famous for copying the most successful hedge fund strategies.

Jérôme Brochard has joined Verition as a managing director in London from Nomura's quantitative investment solutions (QIS) team; these teams seen across banking provide a variety of services, but they're most famous for repackaging hedge fund trading strategies as swaps or structured notes to make them more attractive to investors. Brochard was global head of structuring in Nomura's QIS team, and EMEA head of distribution. Brochard held MD roles at multiple banks before joining Nomura. He was an MD in Credit Suisse's QIS team, and was Goldman Sachs' global head of systematic trading strategies. He spent 11 years at the latter bank, making MD in 2011.

Verition has been growing its London office. Companies house accounts show that the fund had ~130 people in 2024 but LinkedIn data suggests headcount is closer to 180 today. Other recent hires include Yingying Zhang, a quant developer who joined from private equity firm Blackstone this month, and Alex Crocker, a junior rates and FX trader who spent the last five years at BNP Paribas.

It's not clear when Brochard officially starts at Verition, nor what his official role is. He's not currently associated with the firm on the FCA register, and ended his association with Nomura in late March. Nomura declined to comment while Verition did not respond to a comment request.

Nomura's QIS structurers seem well regarded. Earlier this year, we reported that Clement Florentin, who led structuring in APAC, joined Citadel Securities as its head of structured solutions.
