Standard Chartered hired an ex-Bank of America quant strat MD in London
After various credit trading desks reportedly underperformed in 2025, banks are attempting to shore up their ranks this year. Standard Chartered's latest senior hire is an experienced credit quant who, most recently, worked on a low latency credit exchange.

Geoff Morton is joining Standard Chartered as a managing director of credit trading product management. He was most recently global head of strategists at MarketAxess. He also previously co-founded Full Cycle Analytics, a bond trading intelligence startup.
Morton, an Oxford PhD physicist, spent the bulk of his career as a credit quant in banks. He spent nine years in the fixed income research and strategies (FIRST) group of BNP Paribas, working on hedging simulations for CDOs around the time of the 2008 financial crisis. He then spent nine years at Bank of America, where he became an MD and global head of electronic trading credit strats.
Banks appear eager to retain their credit traders as well as hire in new ones. Our 2026 compensation and lifestyle report found that bonuses in credit sales and trading were up 25% year-on-year, the most of any major division. Making sure that they have the right products to use is presumably part of the retention package.
